Is this overkill? I put a picture of my dash in Members Datsuns.
The foam cover was removed and the metal trimmed to fit around the roll cage. This thing will fit right over the front horizontal bar. Anyways, this aluminum panel fits where the stock plastic insert was. If i wire this up right, i will still be able to pull this panel off without pulling the hole dash.

Tim,
That's correct - the 1200's enigne bay is smaller than the 510's by a fair margin. I'm putting an SR20DET into my 1200 and it's a VERY TIGHT squeeze. Like the 510, the VG30 would be an easier fit. Even as it is, the SR20 and trans has the shifter about 6" back from the normal location. There is a combiation of SR/KA gearboxes that alleviates this somewhat and puts the shifter in near-stock location. Unknown if this type of combo can be done for an L-motor. I'm going through the same fact finding session with an L-28 in a '71 510 wagon. Everyone I have talked to has said that the six is too long for the 510 engine bay so I would assume that
MAJOR surgery would be needed to fit in a 1200. If you were to cut out the firewall and transmission tunnel you could probably get it in the car. I'd bet that the shifter would wind up in the back seat though. I'd try to find another vehicle that could use the "free" engines rather than cut up a 1200 that much. You are right though, a straight six would be a hoot! Have a day. Tim

I think a 120y dash can fit. I dont know how easy but, could be a bit of butchering to make it fit. I wouldnt bother anyway, there ugly. If u want those blue luminated dails im pretty sure
u could buy the gauges seperate from Autometer or Rocket, then use a coupe dash and rip out the old gauges and make them fit. This is what im planing to do so i still have the origanal dash with cool new gauges. Cya Scott Davo

Don't get me wrong, I love the 1200 coupe dash, but was wondering if there are others that can be easily modified
to fit in? plus..... I love the look of those blue luminated dials, but i think they are only for newer models, anyone know otherwise?? Michael
