um yeh your right this isnt a thread about the motors but it relates directly to them if you hadnt firgured the motor drives the gearbox

and another thing i believe errol of datrats is running a 63a behind his 2L L series race motor now surely if it can stand up to a 2L race motor it will surely handle the most powerfull A series motors

and what does it matter what ive done?
what does it matter if you have built and raced cars?

i think what he's trying to say is the A series will take a while to kill the 63 box out of the L series...

r-fast this is for an A series not an L
and horsepower has nothing to do with breaking a box. the l series will always have more torque then the A and that is what breaks them not the hp

my 2 cents worth .........
Stanza dogleg boxes are weak as p#ss
Okay I suppose for the rally work they were meant for but they don't stand up well to horsepower. After using the 260Z close ratio box I won't use anything else - so good that I bought one of Errol (Datrats) reco boxes. If you are going to go to all the hassle of making an L series box fit - then go for a strong close ratio - it will be far more rewarding.

Send the input shaft to me and I'll use a proper grinding machine to reduce the input shaft diamater. Lathes are inprecice for this sort of thing. At the very least you need a monoset to do the job. I can't remember who has done this before on here but they have used the stanza input shaft. There is no reason why you can't just make the brass spigot larger to accomodate the input shaft of the l series but you will need to shorten the spigot length on the input shaft.

If you need, I'm happy to do some grinding... I think I know someone who works at a place that may build gearboxs.......

and i wouldnt be trying it if you havent done any lathe work before
that would be hardened steel, alot harder and slower to machine then mild

It's a bit tricky turn down the input shaft. There is nothing to hold it by. The one I had turned down had to be held in a tapered jig that held it by the tapered synchro ring journal.
