hey guys,

i use to own a datsun 1600 with a L18 motor but i sold the shell.

i am left with the motor and gear box.

i was just wondering if anyone has any idea of how much work is needed to put it into a datun 1200 sedan

what needs to be changed?

is it easy?

what extra mods will i need to do?

would it be worth it?

thanks guys

in a 120Y (i know - but it may be close and worth checking) you can use the whole 180B subframe and drop it straight in. even has the extra mounting holes in the tunnel for the relocated g'box xmember.

otherwise i think you need a different sump & pickup (L16 or L20 - different bowl position - cant remember now) it fits well with the different sump - a bit lower and further back than with the stock L18 sump.

is it worth it? imagine taking all the panels, glass, interior, dash, sound deadening, spare wheel and exhaust off your 1600. that's about the "difference" - the extra torque over an A15 alone is worth it.

Bit of work but doable and well worth it. L18 is one of the more popular L series 4 cylinder engines. L20B Bluebird or 200B sump and oil pick up to allow motor to sit as low as possible gotta make new Mounts for cross member motor is best on a lean as it was in the 1600. May need to change tunnel if its a manual tunnel stanza 4 speed or 5 speed are good to use as you can then use an Auto 1200 tail shaft provided your using the stock diff (For Now). Have to fit hydraulic clutch a lot of us are going under dash ones as it hides it and also allows a bit more room in engine bay. More to it but thats a little ive learned and about where im up to with the job.

Unfamilia hes not going L20 hes talkin L18 L20b sump and L20b oil pick up bro. H145 and H150 are diff types if you still have A12 in the car its more than likely you will be running h145, H150 is a 120y diff. 120y gearbox tunnel will go well in ya sedan find crappy 120y for sale or wrecking and get the diff, gearbox tunnel and if ya lucky front sway bar and other front end bits.
Arent you sellin the sedan now ?

It can be done with all factory Datsun parts. Although it would be difficult to find the crossmember, which only came in Japan-market L14-powered B110.
