Re: L18 motor into a datsun 1200

not sure if you can use a 200b sump with my set up, they are a mid bowl sump i think so would foul on the 1200 x member.

the bluebird l20 sump has the bowl at the front so will look and work similar for clearance like the a12 sump.

im using xp falcon 13 inch rims on my 200b brakes currently, clearance is fine. toyota steel rims and sunny steel rims didnt clear the callipers. they do work with stanza ones fine, i think stanza are enough unless you have 200b set up already or cheap.

No im using a modified 1200 xmember, cutting the engine percehes off it and welding on the stanza ones (so have to sut them off the stanza x member as the stanza one doesnt bolt into a 1200 at all.)

im going to use the stanza/200b 4 speed stumpy style gear box. got 3 of them, and didnt have the $$$ for the 5 speed really. after all i want to do this as cheap as possible (so i can pay for engenieering).

dont habe much time, work, kids and stuff, not enough hours in the day. mate is helping me with the 3 biggies when i can get there. rest i will do at home when i can.
will help him with it as much as i can with my rubbish limited skills.

your wheels look my old ones, fit over stanza brakes, not 200b ones.

why get mates to help you with it....when you can just give all the stuff to a mate and have it done without you

as far as i know, any sump you use will have to be modded in some way, but best to start with a L20b (200b or bluebird) or L16 stanza sump, and think 720 l18 sumps are also front sumps

mik you could have my SSS stanza box for a small sum of $$$....not going to be the best quality box in the world, but will have 5 working gears again soon

Mmmm... I remember swapping ends coming onto the wet freeway with 12's, that was fun.

yeay 12's are great for swapping ends in the wet, had that a couple of times with sudden stops.

you can't use 200B struts in a 1200 - the spring is too big in diameter.

you need stanza or 180B brakes up front, lowered 50mm with a 1in lowering block out bac to get it level.

need to run min 13in rims with this though.

geez, wheres the fun in putting a non stock strut in a 1200 and keeping it the same as when it came out of the donor vehicle?
technically 180b struts wont fit either as the springs are the same size as 200b

ive had about 3 sets of 200b struts in my car....so you can use them. just gotta go to the small amount of effort to change the spring perches to 1200 sized ones

13 inch mags should clear 200b brakes pretty easy, boffs running 200b discs and 240k twin spot calipers on stanza/200b struts with 13 inch mags and has plenty of room
its only steel rims that the clearance will be tight

so now i need to look for a datsun 120y auto to butcher

The only difference I've come across so far between 120y trans tunnels is the revision they made in the later model which puts a couple of humps in line with teh seat mounts. other than that they're pretty much the same.

But you should butcher the auto cos they are unnatural!

As apposed to your fricken POS!!

Datsuns are datsuns. Besides. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And lets face it Mik. Your missus needs glasses. You are the 120Y version of a man. Except the 120Y has one up on you... More than one person wants to drive one!!
