One for the resident experts...Will L series engine (4 cyl) bolt up to the J series 4 speed column shift ?

I doubt they'd go together, but I should be visiting a mate with an L series motor and J series box in the same place within the next month so will let you know!

no they wont,

the spigot is different, you'll need a custom clutch to suit the spline, and an adapter plate for the bellhousing at the minimum.
