Twin solex - with GX on the manifold.
Just wondering what they are worth in $$.
I know just about any part these days "is a GX" part (not!)

And no, Dundee, you cant have them

Solexs are pretty uncommon, not sure why. I think it is because of how hard it is to get jets for them. You'd find it easy because you've got Dundee.

I bought my pair including Air filters for $480 (Gemparts)- which was too much by their typical selling prices. They were rebuilt though.

Um the GX Brand manifold I bought for $262 posted from SWmotorsport. I reckon linkages would cost another $90 brand new??

That'd give you a rough idea on prices brand new.

Here is a pic of their condition (that's a bprojects manifold though).

Here is a picture of what they normally sell for (this auction was recent) and these were a slightly different type:

Dunno aye, I'd offer $380 first and go as far as $450??

Solexs for some strange reason aren't popular.

I don't know of any Aussie members running a set actually...

I came across this last night, it was one of the pictures flicking through the photo window.

Here is what converted has to say;

"They look very pretty, however my engine guy said solex's arent worth their weight in aluminium. They cant keep a tune and parts to service or rebuild them are darn near impossible to get."

That's funny, I've heard the same said about Weber and Twin Hitachis.
Datsun Competition sold the Mikuni-Solex, and even today in Japan, Mikuni-Solex is the number one choice on vintage Datsun.

They were also described as the 'set and forget' carbs weren't they?

I have read on countless occassions that they hold tune better than any other. "Set and Forget"

I know for a fact that they aren't favourable here because of the difficulty of attaining parts/replacements.

When you actually look how cheap they are and how many actually do sell. You could get a setup with several parts carbs and still find them cheaper than a single set of W's or D's.

Howdy,
I use a pair of 45mm webers on my
FJ20 and can highly recommend them.

I took the car in for a tune after 2
seasons on the track and all that needed
to be adjusted on the webers was the balance
between them.

Cheers,
Geoff
