What is the value of a genuine GX intake and exhaust setup?

Hi all
After some much thought I want to do the following:
I have bought some time ago a complete GX engine. Now I have the following idea.
I want to swap the following for a complete Weber 40 DCOE setup. It must consist of matching pair of webers setup for a worked A12 engine, soft mounts, linkage kit and possibly an intake manifold.
What I have to offer:
100% complete and original GX intake setup. From airbox to intake manifold. I am willing to respray the airbox in the original orange color that we got them here in.
Hitachi SU's I cleaned myself and checked for wear. Almost no wear on the butterflies.
Soft mounts for the Su's.
Intake manifold and linkage kit.
I am also willing to throw in a GX exhaust manifold.

Why I am not putting this in the classifieds is because I first want to hear what you guys think if I am not a bit ridiculous about my swap idea.

setups on ebay without the original airbox have been going for 600 and up to 750
airboxs are rare as rocking horse sh!t here in aus i had to get mine imported from japan cost me around 300 landed
exhaust manifolds are also rare as rocking horse sh!t here to a heap of them went to the great black hole of kinnear5 or whatever his name is very rarely do they trade on the open market you pretty much have to ask around and hope someone wants to sell one
id value them at around 200-400 for one
so i spose your looking at around 1200 for a full setup
but very rarely people want the whole setup just want the carbs more then anything

Maybe this will help, I can get the following: R800 for two 40DCOE carbs (not jetted for 1200 or 1400 in my case) and a intake manifold for them for between R800 and R1200.
Need to find out if the linkage kit is included. Then I will still need some ram tubes and filters.

Why don't you buy them for yourself then?

You know what the problem is. It's the chokes, jets, etc and also if they are a matching pair. I have looked at quite alot of Webers and Dellortos. I even have a set of Dellortos. I can't find any chokes, jet, etc for them to fit and work with a A12 engine. I got hold of someone that can import the chokes at R400 a choke. I will need 4.
Then I will need someone with a HUGE range of jets and tubes to tune it correctly. Webers is easier. Dellortos very difficult. I actually wanna get rid of them but no one wants them.
Webers I looked at were in $hitty condition or not even closely a matching pair.
It will for me be easier to just get rid of my GX stuff that is currently not needed and put a nice already close to correct setup on the engine.

I forgot to mention, I can get a brand new linkage kit in Jo'burg from a carb place for R750. It's crazy.

If you add up all the stuff, one can actually lean to bike carbs like this other guy that recently posted fitting Keihin carbs to his 1400. They apparently also work with needles like SU's that you can space with washers to get correct A/F ratio. And also bore the jet to get more fuel.

I would think your biggest profit would be selling the items separately.

Selling the set complete probably wouldn't fetch as much. Unless you find the right buyer. And it depends where your priorities lie.

From what's been selling lately:

GX carbs & Manifold: AU$300-600

GX exhaust Manifold: AU$250-450

GX Air Cleaner Housing: AU$150 (damaged)-300 (Japan import)

GX Head: AU$250-450 (depending on condition and or work done to increase performance).

Complete GX engine: AU$1600 running (with the right buyer).

The parts that seem to be fetching the best prices are the GX manifolds. The speedway boys find these very beneficial as their mechanical/manufacturer guidelines are limited/restricted.

To tell you the truth the market is pretty erratic, low ball figures appear every now and then with members recognizing the parts (and/or lack of knowledge on the sellers behalf), but generally the profit is in separation.

Sad if you have to separate because a complete setup is simply so uncommon (when up for sale anyway). If I were you I'd hang onto it as you have a piece of history that is really difficult to come by.

You spoke of swapping for webers in another thread. Would it be that much trouble to just invest in a setup without having to swap?

As far as I'm concerned GX parts have just reached a milestone and now attract unreasonable prices, no longer of great interest to me and typically far beyond my budget!! I feel for the low income fanatics just like me, when the letters 'GX' are mentioned.

The most recent (almost complete) setup went for AU$800 on ebay not too long ago.

"no longer of great interest to me"

Yeah okay, they are of some interest to me but the prices are seriously outrageous.

Where is my 'GX' bargain, dammit!!?

The problem is the following:
I am married to a wife that hates my Datsun.
I have a baby boy of 17 months old and it's winter here.
Now you see my problem. I don't have money and if I do get money I am not allowed to spend on the datto.
I must admit I do hear what my wife is saying. The car is not driven enough to fully enjoy the money that would go into it. Hell, I skipped this weekend AGAIN to take it for a drive. So it would have been driven 2 weeks ago now.
Not really a use to spend on something that is not used enough. Now I also went before we were married and bought a complete GX engine for the "just in case something brakes" scenario which with the current usage trend will not happen shortly.
So I thought about getting rid of the GX stuff and buy some stuff to boost performance on the car.
Ag well, maybe I must keep the GX stuff and dream of the weber growl under the bonnet.

Yep.

I have two kids and I'm 23. Uni is getting ridiculous at the moment and I run my own consultant service that pulls about AU$650 a week.

Try making that money stretch for an entire week, sometimes I wish I could shuffle back home to enjoy the cheap standard of living ($2 a beer at the pub!).

2 and a half years left of uni and I'll have two degrees and a masters. THEN the ball will start rolling.

GXman, hang onto the setup. Fark, if you really swapped it, you would be going backward.

But if you did. I think you'd have a deal quicker than you think.

Don't do it man.
