Sounds like blow-by. Is any white smoke coming out the exhaust?? Blowby is cause by exhaust gases leaking past the rings and blowing thru the crank case and up to your valve cover hole. Time for a re-build! Scott Davo

My old A12 was doing this once, I think I had a faulty PCV valve and it was sucking oily crud into the inlet manifold and blowing smoke out of everywhere. I think I removed or blocked the valve on the inlet manifold to fix it. First thing I'd do is check your compression, as Davo suggested it could be worn rings. James
