dont worry about it being a 4 speed. my old 1600 never blew up a 4 speed but i did brake a couple of 5 speeds for some reason.

L16 can make 100hp at the flywheel in a pinch.

Thats what got my attention aswell! I have a set of weber sides to go with a nice head work to come and a cam of around 290 to 300deg should put me nicely over that 100hp mark and still reliable with double valve springs as standard hehe cant wait!

yeah, l18 has more hp stock than l20 or l16, but torque of l20 might kill a few bits like h150 diff over time or abuse.

I like the l16 for 96hp and potentially higher revs due to shorter rod stoke.

a few tickles with cam, carbs and extractors, elec dizzy too should have you with about 90hp at the wheels maybe.

I had a chat to some of the guys that used these motors in oval track racing. They all say 8500 is no problem! I also asked what I should do to make sure the motor is bulletproof. They said the cam tensioner on the one side is held in with 2 6mm bolts from 8500rpm up they break so replace with 8mm ones then at about 9200 rockers starts coming off so then valve spring upgrade is needed. To keep the bottom end in 1 piece change the con rod bolts to arp or 289cui chevy ones. Chevy ones needs a bit of work thou and have it all balanced. Then its bulletproof so if anyone is thinking of a swat like this thats your to do list. Thanx for all the input so far guys!

just swap to the 8mm bolts maybe, 9000rpm is enough for most. for the cost

I must just say I never had any idea my datti would ever become so much fun! With my s14 its always big money for this and big money for that! This on the other had is so cheap its silly and more enjoyable Thanx for the help guys

Theres a lot more I'd do to an L-16 revving past 9000rpm.

Still go the L16, can't go wrong, pushrods are gay.
