For some good toilet reading material I reckon you should buy Frank Honsowetz's How to Modify Datsun L-series motors, you can find it on amazon... great for little hints and tips etc.

My brother in law told me he has got 2 books on modifying datsuns. Maybe thats one of them I must make a plan to get it then. I heard that some of the specs in that book is out, but the basics should stil be a good read thanx

There is a site that lists the wrong measurements I'll find a link if i can, most of the inaccuracies are the Z-series rods and block height and if your building with what you have already you can't go wrong. Its the little things that count anyway.

I dont want to be asking dumb questions, but where on the L16 block do you find the engin number? I saw sum, but dont know if its the right one.

Just under the heater hose outlet near the rear of the head there is a raised machined area should say L16.........

it is a flat machined area (the whole area is raised from the block a little). Just scrape off the grime, then wipe with a cloth and you'll see the stamped engine number.

Ok I spoke to my brother in law and he said he has got the book on how to modify your l series and then the other one is something to the effect of how to hotrod and race your datsun. Is more on the suspension side of things
