Hi there everyone...

My datsun's 310 coil is dead i think...i have an electronic distributor...the one's with the black box on the side...no points...it came stock with the car...because it beeing US version from 1981...anyway...my question is...

Can i use anykind of ignition coil...my car uses a non-ballasted coil...i was thinking of buying a Lucas Sport Ignition coil...like this one from ebay

Ebay link

Would this work? or are there a list of things that may go wrong?

Thanks...

Maybe. You dont' have to use a Nissan coil, but the coil needs to be within specification. Mostly in the ohms of the primary circuit. If the ohms are equal or greater than the Nissan coil, then you won't burn out the blackbox with high current draw.

Why not just use Pulsar coil? Anything from the late 70s to early 80s Datsun/Nissan with electronic ignition i would think should work.

Hmmm...i see...does the same go for Points ignition?

I am still trying to figure out what is wrong with my ignition...cilinder number 4 doesnt work...i have compression tested all the cilinders...everything seems fine...bought new spark plugs...tested the spark plug wire, when 5mm away from the engine block, has an eletric arc jumping around...so i guess it means its ok...

Where else should i look?

How do you mean? It doesn't work?

What was the compression test readings? Exactly the same or 10 psi different?

Ok...let me explain my self better...

My engine doens't run...i feels like its only working with 3 cilinders...so i tried removing the spark plug leads one at a time...cilinder 1 and 2 you could feel the missfiring acentuate...the engine run worse...cilinder number 3 unpluging the lead made very little difference...cilinder number 4 makes absolutly no diference...so i tracked the cilinder that doesn't fire...cilinder number 4...although 3 looks kind os dodgy to...

The compression test read i think 190psi all around...i will go downstairs and check...no big diference...probably like 2 or 3 psi at max of diference...

So where can the problem be? distributor cap? distributor rotor? coil? the black box? or maybe it is non ignition related?
