I'm up on the Issaquah plateau, poor thing will hardly make it up Sahale road. Any pointers when getting the smog gear off?

Pointers? Yes, leave smog gear alone. When you fix the real problem, it should go 90 mph and up a hill lickety split, even with the smog gear.
The most common problems with an old Datsun are fouled plugs and cracked vacuum hoses. The plugs you can easily inspect, if they are tan color they are most likely good and have been firing OK. But there could be any problem, like carburetor setting is off or something. If you wish I could inspect it for you, perhaps around 7pm either FRI or SAT night. Or even Sunday night.

That would be sweet! It's work on cars/trucks weekend around our place, so no big time constraints around here. PM me your info and we can set up a time.

When sorting out such a car it's best to restore the engine & its equipment to original working order. This can involve replacement of a lot of vacuum hoses & some service work on some smog gear, but once it's all done you have a reliable reference baseline to work from. As long as compression is within factory specs & everything else is doing what it should, you will be surprised just how peppy it can be, particularly with the A15 engine. ![]() Here's a breakdown of the plate code. H= 1400cc engine L= Left drive B= Small Datsun model 3= Fourth model in this small car series [B10, B110, B210, B310] 10= Passenger model [the suffix 20 would designate a commercial model of Datsun] Trans F= Floor shift S= [Ummmm, I forget] 5= five speed W= wide ratio, this is the standard trans version 60= Basic trans model. It actually refers to some internal dimensions & the bigger the number the bigger/stronger/heavier the trans. 60 is just right for these cars A= Improved model Final drive [differential] These cars used the H150 model which breaks down as H= Hitachi. This was the sub contract supplier of differentials for Datsun. 150= The diameter of the ring gear in Milimetres The plate code breaks down as H= Hitachi. B= second, or revised version [the previous version was HA] 37= 3.7 to 1 diff ratio Sorry about all the edits but this version of the forum sucks Bring back the old forum.

Shiny paint, good interior, and a 5-speed, all for $150 and a new battery. Good deal.
Rainy_Day_Sunny brought it by and we took a look at it. It's so much quieter and smoother riding than a 1200. It's a little down on power because it's a round-port (65HP) A14 with 3.7 gears, but drop it down a gear and floor it it'll keep up with traffic. And the hope of 47 mpg, I would prefer this over a regular B310. Found three vacuum leaks, which we plugged: * Vacuum advance diaphragm * Choke pull-off diaphragm * bad hose on the EGR signal tube And the float level was a little high. Here's how to adjust: Float Adjustment But otherwise running good! Here are the parts: * TOMCO 7213 Choke pull-off A14 1978-1980 (80-degree fitting) $15 * Vacuum advance $32 * Nissan 75950-H8510 BOOT-CONTROL LEVER STD $28.55 * Nissan 75950-H9102 BOOT-CONTROL LEVER with trim Black $63.83 * Nissan 75950-H9100 BOOT-CONTROL LEVER with trim Brown$63.52

Sweet, Thanks for all the great info, and the troubleshooting.
Looking forward to fixing things up and eeking out whatever power I can get out of her, But your absolutely right, it's quiet, low gas mileage, and in damn good shape, whats not to love!

Well never were truer words spoken [or writen] Datsun saved us money when these cars were new, & decades later, they are still saving us money as this example clearly illustrates. An A15 transplant will help in the pep department & the fuel consumption penalty will be quite small but if the current engine runs fine then wear it out first. [it might take a while though]

Total fluke, I found it 'cause I wasn't looking, I was just Garage sale shopping and fell in love because my Grandpop had a B210 and it reminded me of him. Then I wanted to see if there was anyone else out there who liked them too, and boy did I ever find people!
, now that I've seen what great cars they are I'm hooked!
