#13 Re: CA18DET 1200 how much will this roughly cost?

How do so many SR20DETs get registered and mod plate? It is against national rules. But I wonder if an engineer can get an exemption and if so would expect the price to jump dramatically to do that.

i'm hoping to get mine going for around $5k doing EVERYTHING myself
i was given a ca motor suit rebuild and a hilux ute for a diff and gearbox donor
was also given some stanza struts, harnesses and small parts (thanks jordy)
a guy in adelaide gave me a stock ecu

sr20det? national regs DO NOT allow 2.0l w/turbo in a 1200. 1.8l just scrapes in
you will find a lot of help advice and parts here, i have

theres guy on hear that have fitted ca18s with the ca box with out putting in a bigger tunnle

the sr20det illegal/legal debait goes on foreva! seems like it depends on the engineer

have a look through the project builds thread for my current project. it will give you an idea of what i think should be done when putting a ca in. the standard ca gearbox does fit if the tunnel is modded a little. or if you have an auto tunnel already it will fit straight in. the easiest method is using the maddat gear.

with the sr20det you are correct in that qld doesnt allow it.

Hi Guys, thanks for your repies, i was told that the standard CA box wouldn't fit, so was told that the stumpy gearbox would be better. although ive read alot of problems with changing gear in the stumpy above 5500rpm. I can weld and I'll be doing most of the build myself, apart from a few bits and bobs (some wiring and some bodywork). I was going to put an SR20DET in but aparently its illegal in QLD? i want to do this properly as i love the 1200 utes and want to make a real nice one.
Thanks for your help, keep posting as i need all the help i can get! lol

when you say your thinking of putting it in do you mean "your" putting it in or your going to pay somebody to put it in?

if your paying somebody expect anything up to $10000 as a very rough cost.

if your doing it yourself it depends on how well you canspot a bargain. a properly completed ca18det should cost about $13000 but you could do it the cheap way and only spend $2000 (this would not be engineered and only have the bare minimum in standards
