I must get onto finishing the tune! It broke the gearbox before it was tuned. Another thing for the to do list. I am a little embarressed about not finishing it by now and handing over the dosh!

It was the wifes corolla under no load that i was using for the test.. 6100 in 5th.

You broke the 71b box or your wife's corolla box????

hope it was a sportivo corolla, but then you should have got it to 8200 rpm in 6th

The 71b box.... It didnt realy break, the nut spun off the output shaft. lost 5th and reverse. I`d only tuned to 5,500rpm when it let go. Thats why i havnt got a HP figure yet for the "Guess the HP" thread.

Ive fixed it now but havent had it back on a dyno to finish tuning.

fifth is 1:1 on that special box or stock overdrive?
Hope its not too expensive to fix as the later 71b boxes
are common and behind many low power CA engines.

Nice work ! ,not many people would attemp to build there own dyno ! Props to you ....

Those retarders look like the telma retarder on a mack ,might have been easyer to get them from a wrecking yard

Or am I confused with something completely different :D

Spot on. A few people use S/H truck retarders. They are 24Volt and have to be rewired to 192 Volt. Not realy a big job. When buying new, you get to choose Size, voltage, shaft design etc and you know they work.

I have bought a secondhand unit for a friend before and machined up shafts to suit his dyno frame.

Its probably a bit difficult to get two identical retarders to suit a hub dyno tho.
