It is simple. Just use your fingers to match the distances between the pressure plate and the friction plate. They are never a perfect match. It is a foolproof way to check your alignment. I have literally done hundreds of clutches this way and it has only failed me once. And your fingers are free!!

That 'finger' method always causes trouble for me.
But if you get the transmission partway, and have someone push the clutch pedal to loosen the disk you can shove it in the rest of the way.

yes this is the first clutch i have ever done and i couldnt seem to get it right by feel or by sight,,,, call me blind

But another member lent me a cut up drive shaft
Works bueatifuly, had it in within 15 minutes of been home

Making an alignment tool is easy on a series. Get a 20 cm piece of wooden dowel that is the same diameter as the spigot bush in the end of the crankshaft. ~10-12mm from memory?

Get some electrical tape and wind it around the dowel at the same offset as where the clutchplate will sit when it's tightened onto the flywheel. Keep winding tape until the diameter matches that of the clutchplate.

Put the pressure plate over the top, and tighten down the pressure plate to the correct torques. Once its all done, remove the alignment tool. And push on the gearbox.

There you have it.. a clutch alignment tool
