My engine is a A15, not an A12, running 79mm pistons at around 12:1 compression with 45mm throttle bodies running on 98 pump fuel. I built the engine myself so I'm not sure how much it would cost to get it done by a workshop. I probably spent around about $1000 on engine bits and machining that i couldn't do myself (mainly crank balancing), plus probably close to $2000 on the computer and fuel system to run the injection. The dyno I used is an old water retarded one so i'm not sure how accurate it is. I've seen Chris Petersens' racecar rattle off an easy 120-125 at the wheels on the same dyno, which has basically the same setup as my car, aside from some baffling in the sump which I don't have.

Ah, it seems 125 HP is either "turbo" or "big dollars". Take you pick.

My engine was GX head 54/86 cam 11:1 comp on oct98 fuel 40mm webers and lightened fly..reve'd to 8000rpm max pwr was 106hp at 7200rpm.
NOW the most Ive heard from a N/A A series was John Taylor's knife crank roller cam and rockers big ports motec and 50mm quad throttles...126hp at wheels.
With turbos the sky is the limit with funds...F1 used to push out 1500KW with 1.5 litre V6's used to last 5 laps for qualifying and that was it.....
300hp is achiveable but as Chris said not as a daily.
With mild work and twins will have alot of fun out of 110rwhp in a car thats 650kg... its not about outright Hp...

dat141 that is impressive. I figured 125 BHP would be about the limit for an A12 under 8500 RPM.

Can you estimate for us what it would cost to have a shop build an engine like yours? (120 rwhp A12 engine)

When I was tuning my racecar I saw about 120hp at the wheels at 6500rpm. Didn't rev it any further but could be making a little bit more at higher revs.

oops yes i did mean a12 just bieng a bit brain dead mmm yep it was a little slow but it set a lap record on the 440 m clay track in hobart of 18.89 seconds running in second gear so it is not that bad hopefully with the new build it will have a lot more grunt once the season is under way, and the aust title is run we will start a post for other kids that are running these engines so they can have a little bit of a head start with what to look for and what not to do along with this info I will give full credit to the shops and persons that are helping us because as we have found we can build a motor that works very well without spending big big dollars we will also have dyno results on the new motor.

mmm7.5:1 comp ratio on an NA engine would be mighty slow lol

100hp at the wheel out of an A12...or any A series really, will cost you a little bit. dont think it would really be that achievable on a tight budget if its NA
