these guys are scared of engines s#itting on the dyno and getting blamed for it. they will always be conservative, and i dont blame them.
you need to have a deep discussion when you drop the car off.is it a race car/street n race/ daily driver? what do you want it to do? how do you want to drive it? are you looking for every last bit of power? or do you want it to be safe? how much maintainence are you willing to do? they need to know all this and more. the guy has to know exactly what you expect. if its not possible he will tell you then and there.

we get the other end "hey, you rebuilt the motor why did it s#it the tin" when they have the wrong carb wrong manifold wrong tune up wrong ignition and they fitted it in a paddock full of sand. my all time favorite is an engine built to rev to 7500 with a dead stock oil pan.

the bottom line is, if YOU didnt check it it might not be right

try the plugs, and big gaps are for low emmisions set em to std. the more power your trying to make the more critical the small stuff gets. MSD website has some info on plug gaps

racecar prep is all about checking, knowing, writing it down, deck heights, cam timing, comp ratio tappet settings, plug gaps it goes on and on....
you should have noted all your jets, emulsion tubes, chokes and acc squirter sizes
what happens if it blows up, you rebuild it and it makes 25 less HP. what were your original specs? "dunno" isnt an answer that will help you get back to where you were
everyone thinks this stuff is easy until they do it

Jordy, I honestly believe the problem is the spark plugs. The R for resistor means they were decreasing the voltage for the spark, which was probably being washed out by the fuel. Not your fault, as that's what was recommended to you by the 'tuner'. I second the NGK BP7ES or EY plugs. I'd also recommend you take the resistor plugs back to the 'tuner' & stick them up his .... Honestly from what you've said, he doesn't know the A series engine. Sounds like the guy in Newcastle who rang my engine builder friend saying the VW motor my friend built only made 44 hp at the rear wheels. As identical engines have been dyno'd at 120 hp at the rear wheels, questions were asked. Turns out the dyno operator only rev'ed it to 4000,not the 6000 that it should have been rev'ed to. The operators response was that he is only legally allowed to rev it to 4000 without the owners permission. Maybe the 'tuner' in your case thought that was all you wanted it rev'ed to. if the engine blows up & the operator has rev'ed it higher than you've told him he can,he is liable for any repairs.

So the only things that has changed from andys setup to your setup is how and how much feul you get to the motor and how the motor is getting spark. Get those 2 areas checked out and should be smiling all the way.

thanks dattoman_1000 ill get on to that dizzy guy :) and get them plugs n coil :)

what did you pay the tuner to do? HE should be telling YOU whats wrong yes i rang him and he said coz i had my shift light set to 5500rmp he only tuned it to that rpm and it was fine but i only had it set to that coz it would back fire so he isn't too helpfull and he charged me for cleaning the webbers after i told him there rebuilt so no help there and i will look for someone else to tune next time

the exorst is 2.5inch but one extractor had to be dented to go around the steering idler arm but wonce again was like this on andys setup and reved fine

and wrong springs? wrong installed height? i expect all this to be fine has this is how andy ran it

wrong springs? wrong installed height?
restrictive exhaust?
or any of the other stuff above
what did you pay the tuner to do? HE should be telling YOU whats wrong!

1) do a compression test ,if the comps down you can F#ck around all you like and get nowhere

Personally
I'd go BP7ES or EY if you can get them (non resistor)
Get the dizzy graphed for no vacuum if thats how your running it (Shultz auto electrics in willetton will do this)
Make sure the coil is right for the rest of the system (mine had the wrong coil on it once and it wouldn't rev... not enough fat spark)
Get the fuel pressure reg and gauge in there to make sure your fuel requirements are set

Then rev the tits off it
