No, it won't affect legality. But if the law in your state says "as long as you make a new plate, then it's legal"... nah, it is unlikely any state would pass a law like that.

If your goal is to fool the inspectors, Yes, it might work. That's called 'fraud'.

Would the plates make my b10 with A15 legal? Is this how they cross check which engine should be in my car or do they do it some other way?

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but in a similar vein I have a custom made Datsun "A" stamp, it is an exact replica of the "A" used on A series engines, very useful for restamping blocks that otherwise might give grief at registration time.

Hey Guys, thanks for the feedback. Looking at having them done sometime in the next 6 weeks.

Price wise, not final as pricing isn't confirmed, but probably around $35-40 + a few bucks shipping which I think is reasonable if the quality is good.
