go the GX head, and SU's or even just a weber DGV. and a reasonable cam.

And then when ya of ya P's all the trick bits are easely transferable to an a15

Or if ya real keen, an a14 crank and a 77 mm bore, would giv a fair bit more tourque and will still rev nicely, and make better use of watever carbs you choose to use.

I am verry keen, so keep these ideas as above, (A14 crank 77mm bore) coming. Want to know as much as possible, and get some decent power out of the A12!

Ask a memmber 'Dodgeman' he's verry knowledgable and is currently building an a12 along these lines.

Click 'members' over there <--- and serch.

There is allso a thread on a build of this nature somewere to? use the slow serch bar.

The first Q is. How much do you want to spend. You are not going to get big power from the A12 without throwing big cash at it. And big power = unreliability if not done properly.

Stick with the basics. A nice size cam, nothing massive, 32/35 weber, extractors and a 2 inch exhaust and after all that, if you still have any cash left over, then a mild port job. Polishing is rubbish for a street engine and too much porting can make it go backwards in the mid range where you want the power. Round port heads are fine for a mild street engine.

Do you plan to do alot of the work yourself?

What I can do myself will be done by me and dad (mechanic). Well really the question I have to ask is how much will it all cost? I'm prepared to spend the big bucks, it just means I save for a little longer. I guess I am prepared to spend about 2grand. If thats not enough, then I only do what you said above. But then again, its going to be my car for 3 years. So I am prepared to spend more in the long run.

Just be realistic about the expectations you have for your engine. Ask yourself what you want from it and stick to it. If you want a bit more punch from it and for it to be reliable then stick to the above mods, although an oval port H89 head would be as good or better than a ported A12 round port head. You don't need a GX head, although nice, you won't be able to find one for under $500 that isn't missing at least 5mm off the face from the speedway guys. Unless someone generous is willing to part with one at a reasonable price.

the above mods can cost up to $2K easy depending on how you go about it. I just bought a decent 23/36 manual choke weber for $100 the got it rebuilt properly for $220. Adaptor new $44. Extractors new $350. Exhaust $250. Camshaft and lifter grind $120. It is the trivial things that will catch up with you.

It doesn't really matter what you do with it, you will be bored with it in about 4 days anyway!!

Its not about it being exciting forever, its about being reliable and being able to haul its arse occasionally, nothing to crazy, no where near race-car performance. So with that in mind, thats what I want to sort of build. I love that saying:

cheap + fast = disaster
fast + reliable = expensive
cheap + reliable = stock

Fast + reliable = expensive. I'm fine with spending the money, so what sort of mods, will get me there. Suggestions?
