Automatic camshaft suggestions...?

I've started rebuilding an A14 to replace the A12 currently in my Minor and I'm after some suggestions for a 'nice' cam to suit the automatic. Its your standard run-of-the-mill rebuild, I already have custom extractors and the automatic is a 3 speed 3N71B. Has anyone had any experiences with cams behind an automatic? I know there's a thread floating around about race cams behind an auto, but I'm just after something a bit more tame for a bit of extra torque and a lil lope
![]() Cheers, Sam EDIT: ...and the compression is around 9.5:1, maybe a bit more.

Nissan fitted the same cam for MT and AT Datsun B310 with A14. It doesn't really matter if it's an automatic. Sometimes manufacturers put a hotter cam in the auto, sometimes they put a more torquey cam. Just put whatever you want. The only time they put a special cam in is when using a high-stall torque converter, and even then they simply put a high-RPM cam in same as a manual transmission car.

I spose I should have been a bit more specific with my post - I'm wondering if anyone has any experiences with how large a cam you can run without having to modify the converter? I was thinking of just running the stock cam, but I thought I may as well do it while I have the engine out now ![]() Cheers, Sam

That's a good question for your cam vendor.
Of the five stock Datsun grinds, any will work fine with an automatic. The hottest stock cam was fitted to A14s that have dual valve springs. See Camshaft Comparison. You can view topic.
