thought i'd throw something out there. a guy in brisbane sells conversion kits for a bmw twin cam head on the 1275 mini enginge. i also heard that the mini and datsun block was very similar or the same. i was talking to a guy who played with mini's when he was younger and had an a12 head on a 1275 mini block. so it sounds possible. the guys shop is called reed speed and does mostly mini stuff but if any one wanted to chase it up i'm sure he would sell someone a kit if the blocks were the same.

Yes, but which Datsun block? Nissan produced 20,855 Austins from 1953-1959. Mostly using an 1.5 liter Austin engine. The first Nissan engine derived from this was the Nissan C1 (1000) & E1 (1200). The next generation engine design apparently was the J engine (J13). Later came the Datsun A. That's why the A is so different from Austin A, while sharing the same basic dimensions. The Datsun A is several generations more advanced than the Austin A.

It was my understanding that the Nissan A series Engine more closely resembles an MG'B' Engine, not a Mini 'A' series...

! That's disgusting talk - wash your mouth out!!

Similarities: 4 cylinders, pushrods, pretty much The End.
Differences (some): Datsun has steel crank, steel rods, alloy head, inclined valves, 8 ports, Over-square (A12), doesn't leak, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

was just a thought and i was only throwing it out there for the guys who know far more than me. if it was feasable might have been alot simpler than some of the other transplants and set ups for fuel injection etc.i wish i still had my cooper block that i was saving. i could check for myself. any who, i think the guy from the link is the same guy i know. his name is matt reed if any one want to contact him. i already have a ca in my ute so it was more for the other guys. good luck.

I've heard the same as LowTech, however unfortunately I know little about the Austin engines.
