#1 hilux diff convertion to 1200
44lex Posted on: 2009/10/22 1:25
i got my hilux diff cut down to suit from geoff england engineering. top guy. he made it 3mm per side shorter then normal datsun 1200 diff. had to be shorter due to the lip on the axle. i used 2wd axles. and kept the hilux stud patern. geoff number is 3206 6755 and he is in the redlands area in brisbane. he also made me new spring perch to suit the hilux diff. ive got some pics id like to get someone to put up. il email them to you as i dunno how to post them. send me ur email.

How much does he charge? thats a very good diff option for a 1200 with big power.

i presume this is a carry on from the other thread that went abit offtopic...
i donno what you guys got in aus but here in nz theres 3 common sizes of diff, the early one at ~1370 wide (which is quite rare IMO) and then the sorta common, 1420 wide and then the 1470 from the later model hiaces and stuff
so normally if your shortening the 1420 version you can go and ge the longer axels from the 1470 version and respline them further down the shaft where there is heaps of meat

these measurements are from drum to drum, i donno what sorta lengths you guys are after...

Hi guys,
Yeah thanks for doing the run off thread.
I have a Hilux installed in my coupe, 1410mm without shortening, I have adapted a set of Starion ventilated rear brakes onto mine. There is a mob in Sydney who make an adapter plate for R31 rear calipers which might be more popular for 1200's.

Chris from QPDC in QLD (I am sure he is a member on here) has one in his Sedan, the lucky bastard managed to fine one that will fit without shortening (wheels fit under the Sedan arches) unsure of the model Hilux but he said it was an early version.

LSD, Trutrac, Lokka are pretty common (expensive) for these, any G series Toyota third member should fit, be careful with the 4.7:1 carriers as they don't fit other ring gears/pinion combinations in the third member.

I have a 4.3:1 LSD in mine, if I can find a 3.9:1 or 3.7:1 gear set I might change it but in 5th CA manual box with 205/55R14 it cruises at just over 3000rpm @ 100Kph.

is that $800 including supply of diff and install + cut down and what not? :)

how does he go with tailshafts would i need to get that changed myself or is that included ( possibly dreaming i know :P )

I was quoted $950 for an R31 28 spline Lsd cut down and installed.. they supply the Diff :)

could be keen :)

950 is pretty good for supply-mod-install of an r31 diff!

Nah I bought the diff from eBay. I got a tailshaft made from dyson rotary. The standard tail shaft would not hold up. $950 job done is a good price. I would get it done.
