i recently picked up a 1400 engine for my ute, and i have got a big cam shaft sittin at home, (clive cams) which used to be in my a12 race car motor but was to big. would that cam be able to go into the 1400 engine?

All 1974-up A-series engine camshafts interchange. So...
* If it was too big to fit in the A12 it will be too big to fit in the A14
* If you mean the profile of the camshaft was wrong for a stock A12, to answer the question we would need to know what it is for. A stock A14 doesn't flow a lot more than A12, maybe only 10-20% at peak RPM
* If it wouldn't fit into a 1971-1973 A12, it may fit into a 1974-up A12 or A14

Yes, a larger engine can take a "larger" cam.
If your A14 is modifed, it will probably work OK. Keep it revved up!
