Is there any benefit to a mechanical gauge? why not stick with the electric?

I dont actually know if there's a difference. I just know my electrical one is giving false readings and I have a feeling that a mechanical one would be more reliable than an electrical one.
Is that just in my head?

Many of us are your 35 to 40 year old electric Temperature gauges that have never stopped working. How much more reliable could you ask for?
> false readings That may be due to a bad sender. Your gauge is probably fine. Just replace the sender, most Datsun and some Nissan use the same sender.

Thanks dd.
Yeah I was actually referring to the sender operating on a different principle in a mechanical gauge to the electrical one. I was wondering if the mechanical sender was more reliable than the electrical one in a general sense, but, as you point out the electrical sender in my car is over 30years old, and thats definitely not bad in terms of reliability. Good news that a replacement sender will be easy to find and senders of that type are not limited to A series engines. You can view topic.
