they are heavier than a gen 3 v8 and much heavier than a dodge hemi 2,
buick/rover v8 and 370z v6.
A Nissan v8 pushrod Y40 stock with alloy heads easier to maintain and oldschool no pollution gear. You just have to find one or import one from japan.

{ive been running a y44 nissan v8 for about 12 years now runs fine neat fit in engine bay
on pulling a y40 apart we found they well made 4 bolt mains valve guides 4 barrell manifold but never found anyone who hotted one up or made parts for them interestingly the nissan 6 cyl flywheel bolts up to the crank} end quote.

you might be able to get an engineer to say its safe, still doesnt mean you can get it registered

and where are you finding a 1uz with a manual box and computer for the same price as what you can get a CA which would be around $1500

Swapping? It should be relative easy. GM and Ford V8s have been done several times, even the old Hemi which weighs 750 pounds. The Toyota should fit easier than that.

Registration? That depends on where you live. There are no regulations in USA. No worries.

in all honesty i dont think it will fly.
there is a big difference between getting one regoed in a hilux and getting a 1200 regoed with a what, 4 and a half litre(edit 4 litre as mentioned) engine aboard.
nice thought though..

I'm not from around there and I certainly don't know the regs like those of you who are but I keep hearing about engineering restraints and approvals. How could a V8 possibly get approved when a 2.5L doesn't?
