Hey Dave, thanks for the comment. I will some day get to Portland and race.
Worked on the Ford 8.8 today. Got it wire wheeled and painted although I will have to re-wire wheel it when I weld the leaf spring brackets on. The axles should be here tomorrow. I just need to pick up some more steel tomorrow for the leaf spring brackets and I plan on reinforcing the welded tubes.
Also, here is a picture of the old Datsun 320 13 spline axle compared to the Ford 8.8 28 spline. The 8.8 outside diameter is 1.22 inches compared to the 320's 1.14 inches but with the 320 being a 13 spline, the strength is weakened by the deep grooves.
Another project soon to be finished.

Ok, more work done today and more pictures.
Axles came today and what a relief. The length was dead nuts on!
The locking pin slipped in and C-clip ends where slug with no slop.
Started working on my leaf spring brackets. Just laid out some steel and will get to welding tomorrow.
I also fitted the wheels on. Should be good to go but need to set the car on the pavement and see where the tires end up with the fender walls. It looks good thought. Productive evening.

Seeing about getting some adjustable shocks from Competition Engineering or KYB.
Anyone use adjustable shocks that could recommend?

oh. And I guess I'm adding about 30-40 extra pounds to the rear. Wont know final weight until complete.

That is the pre-load spring for the Ford posi-traction. Similar to an LSD. Clutch plates are located to both side.
I have this same rearend in my Mustang and it definitely works.

It is an LSD, which is the generic term. Positraction is a GM trademark.

That is a very good question. Thanks!!
The C clip eliminators is another future project. Right now I'm just trying to get this project done. I'm getting closer.
Last night I tack welded the diff to the my leaf springs. It took a while. Jacking the car up, temp clamping the diff, putting the wheels on, setting back on the garage floor and measuring the tires to the fender wells and the angle of the pumpkin and the backing it back up and doing it all over again. Finally got it within a 1/16 of an inch centered.
The tires are nicley fitted under the car.
Will finish up the welding when I get my drag shocks. Need those before I can build the shock mounts on the leaf spring bracket.
