Darrin, those are Lakewood "slapper" traction bars. They are very effective at controlling wheel hop in drag racing. Except as pointed ou t, they are installed incorrectly - too short. The last photo looks better. The spacing of the rubber bumper is adjustable for bite on drag starts.
They were basically cutting edge decades ago, so the design datsa73 is using is likely more effective.

Dave,
Yep. That's my car and those are mine. I made those. 1x2 square tube. See how they extend to the forward leaf spring mounts. That's how they should be made. Take off your lower brackets and match the holes and make them. Easy. Right now they are sitting on the floor in my garage.

Oh I understand what your talking about.
Lake woods are not mine. You are correct. I built the ones in the prior post with the inset photo.

I expect the car to be back on the road by the end of the week. I managed to assemble the rear brakes, brake lines and E-brake while still getting some house work completed. I'm back to work for a couple of days. All that's left is to fill the diff with oil, reassemble my traction system and install the drive line.
Then I can get the car out of the garage and do a midwinter clean. The garage is mess. Told myself at last seasons race when the axle broke that I would wait till spring to do the project. Early January and its pretty much done. When I start something, I don't like to mess around. ![]() Will post some photos soon.

Drove the car yesterday and as expected the 2.73 gears were dogs off the line. No wheel spin and very slow. No drama at all. I was able to make 50mph in first gear but didn't quite make the calculated 90mph in second gear!!
Here are some photos of the differential. For the brake lines, I just used the Ford ones that were already on there. The splice between the left and right hubs is the same threads as the Datsun brakes so all I had to do is shorten the lines and use the Datsun splice. Hooking it up was a cinch. For the E-Brake I swapped the left and right backing plates so the cables ran out the back. I was able to direct them around back up to the differential where I sandwich the outer cable sleeve between to steel plates with bolts to secure them. Zoom in the second photo. you can see it. The inner cables I just connected straight to the original E-Brake cable. That made that easy. Next is to change out the 2.73 gears for some 4.10 or 4.30. Still need to decide what's best. It was nice to drive it again. You can view topic.
