This week I picked up a KA auto transmission, torque converter and flexplate. The torque converter is already at Cascade Torque Converter to get rebuilt. It was nice that they are only 20 minutes from my house. Told the guy I wanted the converter to work on a powerglide tranny with a 3000 stall. He said no problem. It will be done next week. As soon as I get it back I can measure the distance of the converter on the powerglide to where the flexplate will mount. I'll use the KA bell housing to build the new one for the powerglide.
The conversion has started.

Well I finally got the torque converter back. Took longer than I thought. The paint looks good.

It is the same size as the original KA torque converter so that was good. All the innerd's are Powerglide components with a 3000rpm stall. What your see is a bell housing from a KA automatic transmission and the Powerglide.
Objective is to cut the bell housing off the Powerglide and bolt the KA on. There are some Ford adaptor plates out there that I can use to do the modification so I will have to purchase one of those as well. Should be no problems doing this.
Will pull the motor now that the race season is over. I am looking forward to the work.

Found time to cut the bell housing off the Powerglide and hold the KA24DE housing up against it.
28 inches long which is 5 inches shorter than the 720 pickup manual 5 speed. Surprised that this thing is so small.
A buddy of mine will start the adaptor plate this Friday. I have the measurements for the thickness which will be 11/16" all he has to do is keep it centered. Bolt plate to pump and bolt bell housing to plate. It's just that simple. After the plate is done, I can then start fitting it in the car and build a new tunnel. I might just go out to the junk yard and cut one out of a car.
Im also going to redo my gauges as well. All the stock stuff is coming out and everything is getting rewired. Over the years and all the mods I've done, I have a
real mess of wires under the dash.
I will soon be back on the road and I wont miss the 5 speed at all!! I never really used 4th or 5th anyways.

Nice. Handles a lot of torque and is small, lightweight and shifts faster. Great for drag racing

Dave, drag racing is the plan. The auto will be a manual shift but only one shift. I ordered a Hurst Quarter Stick.

My last winter project was all on me.
Had to wait a for a friend to build the plate. I'm picking up a powerglide pump face from a transmission shop today. I'm borrowing it so this way he'll have the bolt pattern. Dropping it all off to him on Friday.
I should start on the Gauge Cluster though.

So parts dropped off on Friday. Waiting for the adaptor plate to be made.

Here's a photo of the mockup between the KA24DE and the Powerglide transmission. Along with my Hurst Quarter Stick Shifter.

And, I found an easy way to remove the pilot bushing out of the crank. Shove some bread into the bushing and push it in with a bolt. Shove some more in and again push it in with a bolt. Get a bunch of bread compacted in the rear of the crank and then start whacking the bolt with a hammer. Bushing comes right out. Piece of cake...or bread. How simple is that.
I had to order the Torque Converter Pilot Bushing from the Dealership. None of the auto parts stores carried it. Will install that tomorrow.
I just finish ordering up all my new Gauges so I'll be working on my Gauge Cluster as well. Adaptor plate should be ready by Friday and my friend said he'd fab me a bigger crank pulley for my supercharger. I'm currently at a 1.75 to 1 ratio. Would like to up it to 2 to 1 which means going from a 6 inch crank to a 7 inch crank.
Oh....I also got an awesome deal on a Nitrous fill station which I could not pass up so I'm picking that up on Wednesday.
