Bummer. At least it wasn't a mechanical failure, so here's hoping nothing goes wrong!

You might want to check the radiator cap pressure. Might have a high-PSI cap like the Nismo or a VW cap on there

The radiator is from a VW Jetta and the cap is from a Vanagon. Didn't think a cap would be built to that high of pressure. You would think it would relieve before the radiator would blow.

Some VW use a 1.5 bar (22 lb) cap. Most radiators are built for 13 lbs (SAE spec 12-16 lbs). Get a VW cap that is 1.0 bar. Of course if it is a VW radiator it should handle 1.5 bar pressure. Maybe cap is faulty or radiator is weak?

The cap wont relieve until it hits the specified pressure -- so it depends on which cap you have

Oreilly's rents cap testers

So it looks like it should be a 16 lb release. I'll get it checked out.
Radiator should be here in a couple of days. First race is April 10th.

So last Sunday's race turned out to be a good day. Had my fastest time at 6.357.
Raced a Camaro and smoked it. I'm still having timing and spark plug gap issues. Had another backfire issue at the finish line. Decided to put the car back on the trailer and work on the issues when I got home.
I have already installed another fuel line and pump dedicated for my nitrous.
Going to regap plugs from 28 to 20 and set the time at 20° from 25° with an additional retard of 6° when on nitrous.
I'm running VP 110 mixed 1:1 with ethanol free 92 octane.

YouTube video link of my pass. Second race on video clip.

Drag Race

Next race day is on the 24th.

Racing again tomorrow as long as the weather permits.
I got the second fuel pump installed dedicated for the nitrous. Black pump in the bottom of the trunk in the picture.
Second backfire valve installed on the manifold along with the one down by the supercharger. I don't want to break anything.
My timing is set at 25° but will start out retarding it at 15° when on the nitrous and work my way down to 10° on the results of each pass.
I'm trying a new set of spark plugs as well. I had been using the NGK BRK7E plugs. I'm going to give a non projected NGK 5671A-8 plug gapped at 22 and try one step colder as well.
Both carb secondary main fuel jets are upped from 210 to 220.
It will be interesting where this takes me.

Why such a narrow plug gap? Won't your multi-spark CDI system fire a normal gap?

Thanks for asking Dave and you are probably correct. I'm playing the safe side right now till I can get these backfires figured out. I will more than likely regap them back out to 28-30 after check the plugs after a couple of runs. Adding the nitrous to the supercharger complicates everything.
Not sure if racing is going to happen today. We have showers this morning.
