Yeh i used to get the #OOPS#s reshimming the valve clearances. He has mega stiff valve springs which at first pulled the valve seat into the head a bit i think, because we got em spot on when we built it, then about 3 mnths later, had to re do em and there was just about no clearance. Then again after about the same time done em AGAIN!! and there just #OOPS# to do, plus i had a bag full of old shims i had measured with a micrometer and written on them there size, and had to fish through em to get the closet ones i could. Was a real pain in my ass to do lol. But after that time its been sweet.

I used to work for toyota, and that was the job i hated most. Redoin valve clearances, because as u all probrably know, sooooooo many toyota engines use that setup. Wicked idea, except for when u need to adjust em lol

This motor is a very popular choice here in SA, coupled to the 21R Toyota boxes in Datsun UTEs for street cars, drags. They also like to turbo the living crap out of them. We have 2 of them that we compete against in Gymkhana, but still the 1400 is able to kick there arses, but it is very hard work to compete against these motors.

Yet you cant compare these engines with street engines they have
serious internals and money thrown at them.
Many engines can rev high but not be reliable.

The lil A15 can rev to 10000rpm in drag setups in Japan so not bad
for an old pushy engine. If you setup an a15 with a ball bearing
t25rs it will kill a super dooper NA 20v and weigh in the same,
cost less to setup and easier to maintain.
Its just doing it right that few are prepared to do.

the 4agze supercharged is the best 4 pot motor ever built. all forged internals from stock. put on some exstracters and a good exhaust and you've got yourself a sr20det, ca18det eating machine. don't argue this, you's all no its ture.

If you do both properly, I doubt it would cost you less, and what kind of datsun gearbox can handle over 160 HP reliably?? The 20V will give you toyota reliability and drivability, an a15 turbo will probably give you lag and broken gearboxes.

all forged internals from stock.??
I think from memory also, that only the last of the gzes were forged with steel? cranks?? Anyways, good motor, that yes has had lots of $$$ thrown at it on research and development. I reckon a standard 20v would last a bit longer than a turboed a series and even if done right. Plus think of the $$$ to do it. Forgies, rods, oring block, custom manifolds feul system etc, and a glass 4 speed behind it?? lol
HMMMM, Maybe i will do a 4age conversion lol
