relax, its a datsun they came with noises from factory. while the box was off surely you had a look, maybe changed the thrust bearing?

i cant believe someone was going to charge you 400 clams to make a few welds. If you gave it to them ready to weld (so straight butted up joins) it shouldnt be much more than an hours work.... not a bad hourly rate!

I PMd him Don... Waiting as he's a busy man. Spoke with jmac too.

Lags- yeah they all have rattles, from factory, but this one only showed after hill climb.

I Inspected throw out bearing, seemed fine, as did clutch plate and cover (didn't remove them though).

bummber you didnt change the thrust bearing while you had the box off, for the 10 bux it would have cost. offer simon a price and have it all ready to weld and he might have time to squeeze it in.

So used hydraulic method to remove spigot. Came out like this in 2 parts

So got a 71b to go in and I loosened cleaned loctightened and retorqued fly wheel bolts to 110 ft pd as per manual.

Now need to decide which clutch to use. Old clutch came out like this

Need to decide to just reuse and hope that's not my rattle or put in my spare old center 4 puck brass button clutch.

Clutch feel should be similar to a 4 puck I had in my famila, off or on, but I'm more concerned of shock loading on gear boxes.

Finances don't extend to new plate currently. Plus any new plate may get same damage on the clutch diaphragm springs too due to lightened fly etc.

Mmm decisions

you need to stop being concerned about shock loading on gearbox's
if you plan to continue doing motorsport events, button clutch or not

and stress less about little rattles, you cant hear them at full noise

just had a closer look at your clutch...

something not right there, what were the springs rubbing on?
looks like it was installed wrong way around, or is it the wrong plate?
it would have definately been noisy

Spigot in, clutch on picking up 1 box tomorrow maybe 2.

Don told me great way to.put spigot in, use old one on Input shaft and new one in front tap it in lightly bit by bit til seated right (also soak new spigot.over night in Trans fluid). Too easy.

Torque of bolts in manual was.15ft pd. My wrench wouldn't click til approx 30NM.
so did them up in a star pattern bit by bit like a 5 stud wheel.

couldn't installed cage as started raining. Packed up and will installed box thurs night hopefully.
