If you run a high performaance engine with dual sidedraughts & a hot cam, then fitting a booster seems to do little but add weight & complexity.

This sort of engine develops very little vacuum anyway & brake boosters need vacuum to work.

The factory fitted triple Weber Valiant Chargers [E37, E38, E48 & E49 models] did not run brake boosters for this very reason.

I can stop faster than most cars with pressure of my big toe. But it is encouraging to hear of your success without a booster. A grandma could use my brakes. She wouldnt be able to turn the steering wheel and she wouldnt be able to get back out of the seats.

hey guys, age old question..... which brake booster to put in a 1200....

new question....... why bother?

i've had all sorts of brake combinations in a 1200, including with a brake booster

i used to think when you went 4 wheel disc brake you would need the booster

but last x-mas i tried 4 wheel disc (4 spot hilux up front, bluey disc overs on the rear)
and i didnt install a booster

and i have great pedal feel with not too much effort, still using the stock master cylinder and no brake booster

so....... my real question

what is motivating people to put brake boosters in?
i've never actually ran into the need for one myself, and they are big ugly horrible things which are hard to install. so... why bother???

are engineers asking for them to be installed? i've never heard that to be the case but maybe?
