I have heard of speedway guy adapting an E15 to an A-series for their race engines with great success, but i'm thinking that its not an easy thing to do, it would take alot of mods to get it running, especially the water and oil galleries and also the timing chain.
I'm keen to find out more about the vauxhall head? anybody know anything about it?

Its a commen misconception that the A series is a copy of the BMC stuff. The J series motors are much closer to the BMC ones. With what they learned from these, nissan redesigned their motor for the A series donks. So apart from being 4cyl, pushrod, in line, and OHV, they don't share much in commen with the BMC motors. Plus they were designed and built in nice new factories, whereas much of the pommy stuff was being built in pre-war factories that still had dirt floors. when my old man was in maelbourne in the 70's he worked with a pommy bloke who had worked at quinten hazel, and told him their factory still had a dirt floor. Probably why their stuff is junk. (Give me 555 ball joints any day)

I never said that the datsun A-series was a copy of the BMC design. Nissan made the early E series engine under licence i think, even used some BMC castings. I bet nissan used experience gained in that process to help design the a-series engine.

The Nissan A engine is most definitely derived from the Austin B engine.
Nissan produced 20,855 Austin A40s and A50s from 1953-1959, the latter with 1500cc (1489cc) engine. They hired Donald Stone to design a smaller engine for the Datsun line. He destroked the BMC B series 1500 engine, and the resulting C1 engine was called the "Stone engine". This was fitted to the 1957 Datsun 110. When it was later increased to 1.2 liters for the first Bluebird (Datsun 310) it was named the E1. This was followed by the J-series engine, distinctly different from the Austins, but similar in many ways. Then the Nissan A-series for 1966 was the further evolution, almost completely different from the Austin in every way except basic dimensions. Cam is on other side, head is aluminum, etc. The 1982 Nissan E-engine was a direct redesign of the Datsun A-engine, hence the head bolts on, although it is OHC, lighter block casting, and shorter overall for easier sideways installation (FWD). So, no -- Datsun cars never used Austin engines. But since 1957 they used new & improved Nissan engines based on the Austin design.

The original question was "anyone ever considered doing this?...[A15 engine with] mazda b6 DOHC head, distributor less ignition, fuel injection as factory on head and a well chosen turbo on the side."
Answer: No.

i actually forgot about sikyne's A14 IPRA coupe project, from memory he was using a motorbike twincam head on an A14. I remeber him talking about the engineering nightmare to get it all to work,i'll try and drag out the old thread.
