it came out of a 1600 stanza, it's the same length as my existing 4 speed gearbox, and has a cable not hydraulic clutch, can anyone else verify whether it'll bold straight up to my a series motor ?

for the record, the A series 63a dogleg 5 speeds are hydraulic clutch.
IF you have the correct box for the A series motor, you're going to need to remove the factory mount points from the floor pan and either weld them back on further back, or fabricate a new Xmember, and create new mounting points. I used a home made X member, with reinforcing plates on the topside of the floorpan.

As for the clutch, I had my A series flywheel remachined to take a 200mm pressureplate, and the 200mm L series clutch plate.

Post a photo of the gearbox looking at the gearbox mating face, and we'll know right away if it's for an L or an A.

If it's an L box, forget adapting it, it's more work than it's worth.

Yes, that 63A only fits L-series engine.

You need 63A for A-series engine. The Datsun 1200 auto driveshaft fits it.

If you find a broken 63A for A-series you *might* be able to swap the front casing. No one has actually tried this.

I've done it. BUT, you need to turn down the input shaft as the L sereis input ID, is bigger than the Spigot bush OD of the A series. Plus it needs a bit cut off the end too, as the L series input id longer than the A series one.
