for the record, the A series 63a dogleg 5 speeds are hydraulic clutch.
IF you have the correct box for the A series motor, you're going to need to remove the factory mount points from the floor pan and either weld them back on further back, or fabricate a new Xmember, and create new mounting points. I used a home made X member, with reinforcing plates on the topside of the floorpan. As for the clutch, I had my A series flywheel remachined to take a 200mm pressureplate, and the 200mm L series clutch plate. Post a photo of the gearbox looking at the gearbox mating face, and we'll know right away if it's for an L or an A. If it's an L box, forget adapting it, it's more work than it's worth.

it came out of a 1600 stanza, it's the same length as my existing 4 speed gearbox, and has a cable not hydraulic clutch, can anyone else verify whether it'll bold straight up to my a series motor ?

63a came in both L and A series versions, if it came in a stanza it will be an L series version. Th "a" in the number means that it is not a revised version of the gearbox, NOT that it is for an a series.

any clutch joint will be able to make the plate you need, its just an l series centre with 180mm(from memory) outer diametre. l series standard diameter - 200mm, a series - 180mm. Ot will work with the standard A12 pressure plate.
I bought one a few years ago, the Australian part# is NSD030U and is made by DAIKIN It was a made to order thing so I dont know if they can still supply them its OD 180mm ID 125mm Splines 24

mine says 63a #3 and then #3 on the other side of the seam line, the case is a "smooth case"

wont be an l series bell housing so chances are its not a L series dog leg. might be the rare a series 63 a.
Ive got a L series 63a but its behind an L series in my 1200 sedan- no way will it bolt to a a series without heavy mods to bell housing(a swap of bell housings to be exact- one member has modded an a series auto bell housing to use a L series box behind an a series. not easy thats for sure.)

the next thing I'll be putting in is disc brake front's, but that'll be another week, lol.
But my main concern atm is the gearbox change-over. My mate has a stanza dogleg 5 speed in his ute, but he can't quite remember what he had to do for the conversion apart from the cross member and the tailshaft. 60 mph @ 2700 rpm = drool :)

doesnt the dogleg and the "a" after the 63 on the side of the casing mean it will bolt up to a "a" series motor?
This box is cable not hydraulic I'm going to go for a quick crawl before the light fades You can view topic.
