Gday all, I've been away for a while so how are ya all going, well I hope. I am finally back into the project and am looking for something to replace the stock ca18 engine mounts. I am asking this cause I am having trouble finding a set of engine mounts that are "cheap" and in good condition so I was looking at just swapping to something more readily available off the shelf at repco stuff. I am using a Kev Rowley fitting kit and he designed his engine crossmember to use the factory CA engine mounts. I was thinkin of redrilling his crossmember to fit another type of mount but whats a close fitting mount??
Cheers Anthony (bundy351)

Make your own from polyurethane from auto one stores. Use suspension high tensile bots and shock absorbers washers from wreckers.
Will never tear or wear compared to all other rubberised mounts and even internal sectioned poly designs. Just poly bushes compress to take the strain, dead simple.
some pics for reference

that would be half way to solid mounting the motor though, in fact that would probably be more like 80% of the way to solid mounting
with the bolt passing entirely through the mount the mount will not work in tension only compression
imagine loading up the motor, say the right side is wanting to lift from the torque of the motor, the right hand mount will allow no movement, and the left hand mount would have very little movement under compression. the motor would hardly move. you would be transmitting a lot of vibration and stress through to your car chassis that would have been dampened by proper mounts
cheap yes, effective no
land rover mounts are a good cheap alternative, there is two lots on ebay, the cheaper ones are slightly taller (roughly 42mm vs 38mm from memory), though i bought these and they wont work in my application, the engine sump is sitting on the crossmember. I have bought some silvia ones to try as i think these are significantly taller than both - at least i hope they are. So you will need to check your mounts will suit the land rover height

The compression is all there, no less than rubber just a tad firmer, It is the most important part for stopping vibration and shock damage from bumps. Torque chassis twist is rare unless massive torque is made. Other vibrations havent been noticed in my friends rx4 with gen 3 v8. Ive had solid mounted BP rotaries in my rx3 and r100 and loved the response. Both BPs made 278-290hp at the engine and they shook like crazy when idling.

+1 for R30/R31 mounts. bolts are in the same spot as s13 but the mount is about 5-10mm shorter so the engine will be a little lower. they are also just a square rubber design so look alot neater than s13 ones
