that actually sounds pretty good. If anything, I'd prefer to have the shifter a bit further to the rear. I'm not quite into the 'rip the front seats out and sit in the back' from police academy, but I am looking at relocating the seat as much as I can rearward, a revised shifter position would be great (even if I had to make a custom shift lever with scoliosis to help clear the handbrake lever.

with an auto tunnel you should be right for clearance, i always thought that the auto tunnels had the small bellhousing section like the manual ones...didnt know they were a whole new welded in tunnel
so now that i have seen a couple i'd say they are pretty similar to 120y/180b/200b sized tunnels only mods i can see would possibly be lifting the tunnel a bit where the shifter would be as it tapers down a bit after the shifter

Thanks for that Nick. I`ll put some pics up of the welded A front section to the 71B box.

True true, but the length available is not the same as the 1200 allows.
In the 1000 you sit a little forward compared to the 1200. Im toying with the idea of finding a Nissan D21 gearbox with Bluebird s3 ca20e 71 series internals. Here are the pics of the box from the d21 its supposed to weight 35kgs. The bluebird 71b series box has supposedly a 3.01 or 3.3 first which would be better than the 3.9 or whatever the d21 is. This d21 is the shorter one in the pic and has the 71c type of gear shifting mechanism which would be better than the bush and pin type. It is also an alternative to the rare stumpy r30 box.

interesting. that comparison pic is to a silvia box im guessing, cant say i can tell the differnce between a silvia and a skyline 71c without having them side by side
so the d21 box looks to between a stumpy and 71b in length wonder how much they go for

I like the shifter mechanism and its compact size without the girth of the stumpy.
