Car looks sweet man. I had a CA20 R31 man piece of puss admittedly a heavy car to heavy for a 4 cylinder in my opinion. Now i have also seen 3 cases where Ca20's have put a piston through the block 1 in an R31 like mine and the other 2 in series 3 bluebird's and the cause was someone trying to put the foot down for simple reasons such as overtaking, going up a hill. Mechanics and other car enthusiasts tell me they have piss weak conrods and i take there word especially when you see the damage. All said may be a different story in a 1200 but i wouldnt bother.

Datman, just a h145, but I have a 165 and LSD centre to use later...

Everyone just seemed to reply about how crap ca20's are with no explanation, which made me think either they have terrible bottom ends or no one knows anything about them... If the bottom ends are fine I don't know why it would be such a bad idea, 16v head would be the go as I have one and probably flow fine for the motor with the port job mine already has...

If anyone actually knows anything about the motors I'd love some info...

I'll have a look at the z20s aswell I know nothing about those either...

Sounds clever to me. Get it all converted with the CA20 and pop a good 16 valve head on it later. Unless there's some problem with CA20 bottom ends?

Crossflow head is way inferior to a 16-valve head. The CA20 crossflow head is only about as about good as the L20B wedge head. If you port the L20B head it will outflow the crossflow head. BUT the CA20S head has very low emissions and with same HP as L20B.

The other carbureted crossflow engine is the Z20S/Z24S engine.

This may sound horrible to some of you, But I was having a geeze around at ka24e head conversions for l20b's, and I was trying to think if there were any crossflow head 2 litre nissan engines that were carb fed...

CA20S, this engine produced the same hp as a L20B, but has a crossflow head, they can be had for sweet #OOPS# all out of r31's and I'm sure gearbox's are just as common.

Any thoughts? Would be something different then the L20B, I can make a manifold to fit twin webbers etc. I could even go a bit further and chuck my ca18de head on it, and still keep it legal with twin carbs. This for me is a pretty cool thought, It has everything I wan't for this car, highest non turbo capacity, twin cam crossflow carby.

Just an idea at this stage, probably will end up pussying out and just doing the L20B.
