Im still wondering if a round port head can be made by porting them up
till you hit the water jackets and beyond to get the height required.
Then filling them up with Devcon or similar putty as its not
really a cooling issue at this point of the head since race
heads are almost solid in this area?

Ive used devcon before to fill up ports and even after heavy heating
of tig welding where the alloy was impossible get near it, the stuff
stays on pretty solid with only slight deformation perhaps at 300 degrees.
Not so much an issue however as inlet ports remain relatively cool.

Any opinions?

eg.

Hey D,
The fella who built my SR uses JB Weld for the same purpose doin head work in drift cars so yeah it can be done in HIPO appz,

That top gallery doesn't look like it directly cools the combustion chamber at all,

might have issues with cold starting and getting the ports up to a nice temp for fuel air mix????

I dunno, I'm no expert so should prob jus shut up...

Would the cooling circuit still work with that area blocked off or u just drill some outlets and run a couple of hoses around that bit???

A mate of mine (Volodkovich) has been hunting for rooted heads to disect so he can get a handle to the feasibility of doing a down port head.

I want to go even higher maybe 2/3mm more than pictured with a custom rocker cover
to alloy for the mani to bolt up. Just a shame to see so many round port head at
wreckers going to waste while the H89 keep going up in price.

D if you go down this road, a product called z-spar is far better than Devcon.

It really is amazing stuff.

Thanks Gary will look into the jacuzzi for Zeds :) never really used Devcon
since getting onto selleys 2 pack metal putty $17 a big tube from Bunnings-nopoly.
Will be good to try this new stuff to especially to raise the floors of the ports.

Bige some interesting ways of cutting heads, fair bit of meat on the sides I see

Some of the thoughts where of bike like angles with matched tube tigged at the
same angles as the new ports instead of the very difficult option of tube inserts.
Also topped off with ally plate tigged round the top of the head like a coffin for added
strength and a flip lid for quick adjustments or wow factor.
