Im changing the unitary bellhousing/front casing on a
stumpy 5 speed and want to use the ca20 one instead
for my ca18 conversion can someone guide me through
the steps to make it happen?

Hey D,

I don't know how similar they are but I have a manual for the 60 series 5 speed if you are interested? PM me an email address if you are and will send it through.

Prob something that could be put in the downloads section?

its easy

-first you drain the oil
-then take all the clutch stuff out of the front
-put the box in neutral
ok they were obvious
-take out the reverse sender and neutral sender if it has one
-undo the bolts that hold the thrust bearing sleave housing thing on (the unboltable thing inside the bellhousing)
-once thats off there is a circlip on the input shaft bearing that needs to come off
-then just undo all the bolts that hold the bellhousing on(the ones in the middle of the box)
-once all those are done get a soft hammer and start hitting the bollhousing forwards.may also need to tap the input shaft into the box a little if the bearing is tight
-keep doing that till the bellhousing is off

as its a CA20 bellhousing you should have to change the front bearing or anything. so just do the reverse of the above to put it back on

not really the hardest thing in the world, nothing will come flying out at you or anything like that

Thank you very much fellas

I did all that to the stumpy box and it wouldnt nudge, but ill try and use the method
you described Nick on the input shaft, give it a tap into the box.

ssskiwi, Ive sent you my email thanks you would be great.

Im also looking into the Navarra 71C stumpy box to see if Simon can make a
5 speed for me so it sits on the 1000 in the right spot. Itll be the first
71C series box on an A series and Simon is already the first with the 71B.

im thinking its the same as the stumpy box
but Im only guessing as Ive never phisically
measured them or come in contact with one.
I guess they sit behind v6 engines so must be alright.

I reckon best to use the gearset out of a ca20 box
from a bluey as the ratios are 3.05,1.9,1.3,1,.8 or something
good like that.
