installation is currently in progress
Thanks for the help!!! This engine has scorcher elec ignition so we'll prob go off the +ve coil for power

Ok so I'm still not 100% on this
cos I have 30 going to battery 86 going to +ve coil. 85 to ground near relay? 87 to power for pump 87a ??? So I have 87a spare, where does this go?? Cheers, Jon

87A is the N/C contact. You actually have a SPDT (single pole double throw relay there. It means that with no power to the coil +ve, current will pass through from the battery to whatever you have connected to 87A, when you turn the key "on" and get power at the +ve, the relay will switch and put power to 87 instead.
In your situation you don't need to connect anything to 87A, just make sure it is insulated from any accidental earth contact as it will have 12V there whenever the key isn't in the "on" position.

30 & 87 are from HOT/BAT to PUMP
85 & 86 are the switch. One side to IGN, the other to GROUND/EARTH (or better yet, to Ground through an inertia switch. 87A leave unconnected. Make sure you put a FUSE on the BAT wire, otherwise a short anywhere in the rest of the circuit will burn up the wiring and potentially cause a fire. ah sweet guys all good now!!!
looks like she'll be runnin in about 1/2 an hour now! and we put a 10a fuse between the battery and relay

Bloody electronicsd I'm still hung up on this,
There was no 12v at the coil when switched to on I found one though and can make the switch activate when you swiych car to ON However the pump still wont run!!! If you run power straight from fuel pump to battery it pumps fuel no probs, any ideas?? edit - make sure you have a good earth and everything will be fine!!!!

Is the relay clicking when you turn the key? All you need for the relay to work is 85 and 86 connected to switched +12V (ignition) and earth. Then when the +12v is supplied the relay should have an audible click? This means the switch in the relay is working and that would then connect +12V (battery) to the pump.

Yeah cheers mate the problem was I didn't have a good enough earth, I was running originally running it from the pump body only, then tried one in the engine bay only
it only started to work when I piggy backed the earth on the pump body to the one in the engine bay now she's sweet, I'm seein fuel at the carbs!! I think theres a spark problem now though cos the old setup ran a ballast resistor and the new scorcher ignition doesn't need it obviously I put the neg of the ballast resistor to the neg on the new scorcher coil, maybe thats it?? Anyway, back out to try a few diff combinations!!! Oh and another thing that is weird, 87a acts in same way as 87. Duno why but both get 12v when key in ON and both get nuffin when key is OFF, I dunno abouth that, maybe I need to put another aftermarket electric thing on this car now! Cheers guys

Good to hear.
You can use the ballast resistor. It goes to the + side of the coil. But since you have a 12V ignition system, just remove it for higher performance.

Thanks DD
Still no spark though, just nothing. I read through the wiki bit on elec trouble shooting and I guess the coil isn't getting 12v when key is switched to ON Would explain why I couldn't take the switch power for the relay from there!!! I am working on a Hilux though so it may be different from the wiki, but this sort of stuff is so universal it shouldn't matter yeah? You can view topic.
