Bloody electronicsd I'm still hung up on this,
There was no 12v at the coil when switched to on I found one though and can make the switch activate when you swiych car to ON However the pump still wont run!!! If you run power straight from fuel pump to battery it pumps fuel no probs, any ideas?? edit - make sure you have a good earth and everything will be fine!!!!

30 & 87 are from HOT/BAT to PUMP
85 & 86 are the switch. One side to IGN, the other to GROUND/EARTH (or better yet, to Ground through an inertia switch. 87A leave unconnected. Make sure you put a FUSE on the BAT wire, otherwise a short anywhere in the rest of the circuit will burn up the wiring and potentially cause a fire. 87A is the N/C contact. You actually have a SPDT (single pole double throw relay there. It means that with no power to the coil +ve, current will pass through from the battery to whatever you have connected to 87A, when you turn the key "on" and get power at the +ve, the relay will switch and put power to 87 instead.
In your situation you don't need to connect anything to 87A, just make sure it is insulated from any accidental earth contact as it will have 12V there whenever the key isn't in the "on" position.

Ok so I'm still not 100% on this
cos I have 30 going to battery 86 going to +ve coil. 85 to ground near relay? 87 to power for pump 87a ??? So I have 87a spare, where does this go?? Cheers, Jon

installation is currently in progress
Thanks for the help!!! This engine has scorcher elec ignition so we'll prob go off the +ve coil for power

For the Datsun 1200, I would connect it to one of these:
* points ignition: 12V side of the coil resistor * electronic ign: + side of the coil * anti-diesel valve on the carburetor

Quote:
switched wire from (where do I run this one from???) = terminal 86 This can be from anything that gets voltage when the key is turned to "ON", because it is running through a relay coil it will draw next to nothing in the way of current. Get a multi meter (or test light is also safe with these old cars, not so with fuel injected) and start poking around to find a source that goes live (+12V) when the key is turned to on only.

cheers DD I'll see how much the reg is at the auto shops today when we go get a new in line filter for the pump and base my decision on how much cash will be left over for beer!!!

Webers required less than 4 psi pressure. The 720 carburetor doesn't.
The regulator goes into the fuel line after the pump. That being said, my 1200 has neither the regulator nor the relay Both are a good idea, but it will work without it. The carburetor float needles may handle the higher pressure, but aren't guaranteed. 7 psi ![]() http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... ?title=Electric_Fuel_Pump You can view topic.
