Projecting the flange area onto the assumed 15 degree angle the port makes with the flange looks like the picture attached. The difference in port CSA and flange CSA comes out at 3.5% which if the pipe comes in straight at the flange dimensions will look like a sudden contraction of 3.4% CSA, likely with a bit of flow seperation. Perhaps fairly minor but not negligable.

The real question is are my fabrication skills sufficient to warrant trying to make this improvement? Probably not. See how keen I get
