Stupid question of the week incoming....

Do the 2 wires from the dizzy itself connect to the + & - points on the coil terminal? If so, what do they do exactly? Tried searching it and found some old forums, but I must be super slow and couldn't understand it.

You might need to clarify a bit, look up kettering ignition to get an idea of how it works (if it's a points system). The negative of the coil is common to both the high tension and low tension windings and usually the ground is connected and disconnected in a timed way to make the spark happen as it should either by points or a transistor. The positive side goes to the +ve power supply.

Maybe upload a photo of the distributor you have to show weather it's points or transistor. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... x.php?title=Ignition_Coil If it's standard it will be a points ignition and will have a condensor (capacitor) to stop arcing accross the points.

So the wires are from the dizzy. The second shot is the back of the coil....Really should learn more electrical stuff.

Looks like a dizzy I had once, positive and negative wires went to the coil. Factory dizzy wire was not required.
Not a stupid question by the way.

Looks like a late-model A12 electronic distributor. My ute has one of those. Or should I say it looks like more like an original A12 distributor with the guts out of a late-1980s Nissan distributor.

What sort of coil is that? Are you sure it doesn't draw too many amps for the electronic ignition? Looks like a newer coil, but the ignition guts looks like 1988-1990 E16 or GA16.

What are the numbers stamped on the distributor body?

The dizzy and the coil come together as a set, so I would expect that they are compatible.
The coil has no markings at all and the only markings on the dizzy is the etched numbers 0951. Not much there. There are made for the A series engine, my old man bought it for me so not too sure from where though.

So wire both the leads from the dizzy to the coil yeah?

Ah, OK. The guts look the same as Aussie Vanette Distributor, but in a different case. Replacement parts should be easy to obtain.

I'll just wire them both into the back of the coil and suck it and see

hey strop im about to fit my new dizzy and 12v coil.just looking at it im not sure what wires to use to power the coil?ill have the two ballast connections and the original +ve what have u used.
