Came across some rust today in my 120y once i got the front fender off, was hoping for some opinions on how bad this is and how you would go about repairing it ? In a bit over my head here i think. Cheers

anything can be fixed

but think of it this way. sure the rear quarters always go, but the top of the guards dont. and if its that bad there imagine what will be waiting for you behind the sills and in the bottoms of the doors and what not. it obviously hasnt been in a good location for rust(not garaged or near the ocean or something) going by the air cleaner and rocker cover that are also rather rusty...these are parts that hardly ever have rust on them

as 120ys arent really the hardest things to find, sure not easy but its not like you wont be able to find another one. so if you are serious about wanting to keep the car you would be better off spending your money on finding a better example

and if you are going to pay someone to fix it then it would work out cheaper spending that money on a better shell. sure you wont get one that has no rust but you should be able to find something thats had a better life than this

Thanks Pigdog not the best news but it's good to know, could of wasted a lot of time and money on that.

Besides avoiding any 120y's with a rusted air cleaner and rocker cover, is there anything else i should look out for when i get another ? Mainly want to avoid this rust under the fenders again, it was well hidden on mine though. How acceptable is it to bring a screw driver to check under the fenders?

just look for general signs of rust in the car, if its been resprayed you can do a magnet test to check for bog. as people dont usually like telling you that the car has bog in it...and alot of the time its covering up rust

if you are just poking around under the guard i cant really see a problem, not like it will hurt any paint or anything

and wayne, its only a 120y. a 120y that will turn into a rusty money pit if he is paying someone to fix it. if jordz had a welder and the time to spend fixing it i wouldnt tell him not to as its not like it would be a huge waste of money if it doesnt turn out good, just a waste of time
