You need electrical power to run the compressor?

How about an A12 powered generator. Just use an A15 flywheel to maximise inertia & minimise speed fluctuations.
A belt drive system with the generator alongside the engine will allow the speeds of the engine & the generator to be adjusted & optimised.

Water pump.
An A10 or A12 can be used to run a fire pump or a pump on the dam at a rural property. A govornor would not be required & a simple float switch to kill the ignition when a water tank has filled would be all that is needed.

Aircraft.

With suitable mods an A12 could be used to power a small experimental class aircraft.
I wouldn't want to regard it as a high performance aircraft but people are still building & flying the legendary Pietenpol homebuilt with a Model 'A' Ford engine [1928 to '31] & they not only weigh a ton but produce 40 hp at peak.

A 65 hp Datsun should weigh a lot less & prove quite reliable.

just a thought.
And i havent read the whole topic so dont shoot me if its already been mentioned.
An a series would run a pretty hefty power generator for emergency power supply.
or a hydraulic pump for a stationary crain inside a warehouse or a decent sized shed.

where i used to work in the qaurry there was a vw engine turning a hydraulic pump which was good for freeing up loaded convyer belts.

Both would be pretty simple.

Sure I could use another a-series to run the a-series compressor, but its a noise issue that stops me there. For ultimate portability sure its the way forward, but thst not my goal here.

Just looking for a huge output setup at low cost and low noise preferably.

Need to do some more research on electrical motor sizes and gearing options.

An as for a generator, hmm didnt think of that. Should be able to make a good size generator for heaps less that the equilivent "off the shelf" item.

Hmmm, put that one on the back burner for a later project...

Just saw this: http://beeoneoneoh.wordpress.com/2009 ... ore-datsun-a6-powerhouse/

Now that is lateral thinking for what one can do with an A-series..

I remember seeings this a while ago.

Dont get me wrong A+ for ideas and effort, but other than a "just cause i can" project, does it have a purpose?

As in what application would be be better for over runing an A12 (complete engine)?

Nice job reguardless though

FIREWOOD CUTTING SAWBENCH

This thing is scary dangerous, no guard or emergency stop switch! I prefer the hydraulic splitter for a firewood cutting but this is much quicker I guess. Good effort. Starting bid $300.00:

"THIS IS A POWERFUL DEVICE THAT HAS BEEN USED TO CUT MANY LOADS OF FIREWOOD!!"

There was also a bus alternator testing station that utilized an A12 as a powerhouse, I have pics of it somewhere.

Why not just make the exhaust hairpin back and forth to increase pipe length and sound absorbing capability and run a muffler? not like peak hp is essential here since it's only going to be working on a limited rev range

In unrelated text any bike guys giving me a speel about me wanting to run bike mufflers on my ride on are going to cop a smack in the face

That is the sort of inguinety that i was thinking about guiys when i first posted the question.

The wood processor that I am planning in my head (with all the spare time I have) is not quite as brutal, but much the same essectially. Ill have a slide bench or use a swing arm for the blade, oh and a much bigger blade than that. And trailer mounter for ease of use.

I have to give the guy credit for that. Its a nice piece of home engineering. Sure it wont compy with any aus std, but it doesent have to.

A-series in there?

Who can guess the machine?
