running in engines, it seems like everyone has an opinion that works, and its impossible to prove that one way or another works better.

I alwasy thought that loading up the motor was the best way to run them in. Driving up hills in a high gear to get the motor to lug is an easy way to achieve that.

But like nigel said he does a bit of this a bit of that.

My bro says that it doesent really matter too much, but what is important is that you change out the oil and filter every 1000 km for the first 5000km, then at 10,000 and every 10 after that.

Does anyone have a book to referene on running in other than their own opinions? or at least professional engine builders with their methods?

Pretty much what Jordy and reuby said.
If you dont thrash it a bit it will be too tight and not rev aswell as it should (if your a petrol head). Probably wont last as long as the factory spec run in engine but more fun!

nige like to blow by the rings

i always got told to load them up and not labour the engine in a low gear. only stick to half rpms and vary it. dont sit on the same speed or revs for ages on end.

new engines donest matter so much but older engines, stick to the methods above.

my mechanic says just give it a bit for the first 10mins then ease of and do like i said.

but ive only run in 3 engines. piggy did the l series and it runs pretty damn nice.
