Speak to the insurance company and ask what they will take in cash to clear the debt, it will be less than what they are currently asking, then offer them even less, its better for them than trying to get $25 a week out of you for the next 10 years. They have already spent the money so whatever they can get out of you is a win for them.
BTW as previously mentioned anybody driving around with out a third party property damage policy is a bloody stupid idiot and should wake up to themselves and not be such a tight arse, because they will be taking it up the arse when they hit someone else's car, and it happens to the best of us so dont think it wont happen to you.

depends who the company is, could be the other guys chosen repairer so there may not be 3 quotes. he would have to pay for the loan car- if he had insurance they would pay the other company for it. what ever the other guy had on his policy- you would be liable for footing the bill- within reasonable costs.

FXXck the main banks they will never get me for a loan I always go the smaller community banks or other ind. My friend has cried povo in court for several things inc a similar situation and got a loan with Ozzie home loans. As for how would I like it the only way Id drive a 125 is if its given to me to trash to the ground.

Get out of it for as cheap as you can and then get insurance! Third party as a minimum..

Thanks for the advice!
Yes, I think I will contact the insurance company and start a discussion. It was a 2km/hr scratch in pouring rain so a door replacement was not even considered when the nice old lady and I exchanged details.
And yeah, 3rd party property will be on the cards ASAP. Even though I don't drive all that much these days... Just a couple of times a month when it is raining or visiting the folks.
I think my biggest mistake (other than the scrape) was not taking photos.
Thanks again for the replies.

Woah this discussion has shook me up a bit, the main reason why I never looked into it before was the "indescrepancies" of having a modified car that may cause problems when trying to take out insurance. Some of us may have mods that by law, if not illegal, really should be engineered. That said how many of these elements come into play with insurance? If we're talking about minor fender benders then I don't think they are going to look into your engine capacity, wether you are running spacers ect but It will if its a major accident causing serious injury or death, in which case, if it involves another car, there's a high chance you are the one who is likely to come worse off. I remember talking to Mik about comprehensive and figured it was way beyond my resources to get everything engineered let alone afford, but how many questions do they ask getting 3rd party on an old car? While I agree with sidedraught 100%, does this also mean that we are equally as reckless modifying our cars (even to make them safer) Without every bolt signed off on and paid for?

depnds who you are with, but as long as you disclose your mods to the company- thats the main things- its up to you to make them roadworthy.
your car is pretty legit- engine on the rego papers. its also pre most adrs so its a lot more leinent. as long as its safe or a saftey improvement its considered ok,unless it contributes to the accident.
its a mine field but some assesors dont have a clue about older cars, unless your specialised insuer likes old modded cars- eg shannons, vigil etc.
when i had an assesor looked at mine- i literally poped the bonnet and he knew it had a different a series as the dizzy position- i knew he was on the ball and disclosed the lot, as evryone is legally required to under most policies in austrlia.
