it's useful for E-series engine, because on E-series the dizzy is on the back of the cylinder head (where the firewall is in Datsun 1200).
It is a Ford Escort unit. See EDIS for swap information.

Definately go for the later twin cam motors,my experience with E series motors is they are fine until they get hot then you throw the head away.
Basically if they have been cooked all E series heads crack in the exhaust ports,so rule of thumb with these engines is never buy a "Reco" head off a wrecker always go to a pick and pull and find the dirtiest well used one you see as it was obviously still running when they pranged the car. This way you have a much better chance of getting a good one or like I said go for a GA 16 TC motor or stick with a bullet proof A series.

Yes, there are three pulsars for sale here all "need head gasket". In the wreckers, many have the heads off laying in the back seat...
Just don't let it overheat and she'll be all right.

speaking with my brother (guru legend mechanic) about the GA16de engines.
his feedback was that the GA16de is a ultra reliable motor that will start first time every time, go forever on the sniff of an oily rag, and rev like buggery. Its a grannys car engine, which to be fair, the pulsar is aimed at that market. As far as GA16de go fast stuff, no so much. He has seen plenty of wierd and wonderful setups, but he cant recal ever seeing someone with a hotted up GA16de pulsar. The best he has seen is a milo tin exhaust on one. Speaking with the rally mate, as for mods to the E16et engines, plenty of guys have modified them over the years. He hasnt had any issues with over heating in his rally cars, and I guess as long as the cooling system is well maintained, you wont have a problem. Hmmm gonna have to find a GA16 engine now for trial fitting just to see if its even going to fit i spose.

at 115 HP compared to 80HP for the A15, the GA16DE don't need no hotting up. Just make sure it is the variable-cam engine. I reckon you'd need to run the Nissan computer to make it all work.

Go the E15et for some low tech fun without all the computer wizardry. I drove a friends intercooled n12 pulsar and holy crap it was fast, you wouldn't guess it was a 1500cc.

There are forums for the pulsars for performance, and alittle reading of them shows that the mods for them aside from custome everything is basically, turbo, intercooler, and bigger injectors, which is fine when you start with 115hp. Hec if you brought that up to 150hp, in a thou, it would be nearly brown trousers time.
If i get the chance to day, ill get a costing on a GA16de from the wreckers. If they sit about $1500 second hand, then its debatable if its worth the effort, when how cheap a and e series stuff is and their ability to get good power.

I just got back from Pull-A-Part. I dare say the GA16DE is the most common Nissan engine in the wreckers now. Maybe more so than the KA24DE. There were quite a few E-series too. Only a couple of SRs, most of the bigger Nissans had the VG six or even the VQ six. Seems like the CAs are now getting scarce.

Just got a quick quote from a wrecker.
a late model 95-99 GA16de complete with harness and computer manifolds etc is $1100 with a 5000km/3 month warrenty. Not bad really so almost makes it worth while. but its an expensive path to take to find it doesent fit.... You can view topic.
