5 speeds, only a few easy ones. After that its major mods.

1. a series 5 speed.
2. T50 toyota 5 speed with adaptor from Dellow, or modify an auto belhousing.
3. Hunt down a rwd Nissan Serena and use the box from that. It is an external linkage setup so mods are required. Pretty big from the pics I have seen on the web so probally not much use in a thou without tunel mods.

thats about it i think

when I pull the e15et this weekend, ill look at the bellhousing in that and see if i can use that to mod a t50 box or something

e16et
ga16det
sr16...
choices choices, but must focus, need to finish shed... and sell a kidney for the cash to recover, and then....

the ga16de has a write up somewhere in the states where Mike Kojima
puts a snail on it and finds that with head work alot of hp is unleashed
and can challenge not beat by scare many sr setups when done properly.

the successor the ga16 is the qc18de like in my mommas pulsar, awesome
torque and much better hp when you rid the horrible pre-cat with headers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_QG_engine

The qc18de or ga16de in NA is 115hp or equal the e15et with good headers, extruded
honed manifold and bigger throttle body should make 135 or 130hp respectively.

the more i think about it the more i am leaning towards the e-series for the thou.

They have been fitted before, and they fit under the bonnet.
They have a good aftermarket performance following, and they start at good HP, with more to be gained with mods. It will all come down to dollars in the end.

the A15 will do the same, its just harder i think.

Still got homework to do on this front and will update once I have some answers.

With the GA16de and the QG18de you mention D, they are fancy pants motors and sure you can really squeze out the ponies, but thats getting into the realm of big dollars, and half the attraction to dattos is the unique budget ponies and fun to be had.
Maybe for a rally car or other unregistered car that can be the project.

If you can fit a cbr1000xx head onto an A series then it must be easier to fit on an E series.
Id love a souped up E series with motorbike head. Problem is passing pollution like any post 1975 engine. Yet the E series block is so simple and compact probably lighter than A15.

Another crazy but possibility would be a ca18 with zx14 head zx14 as it has 83/84mm bores.
Full race technology with over 200hp+ in 1.8 litre guise. If only money wasnt an issue!

Someone do a conversion into a 1000 already.

Or give me your 1000 and I'll put one in there. Have several candidates ready for transplant procedure
